Bush Farm News

One of our chickens disappeared and we thought she had been killed by something. Then this morning she appeared from a secluded part of the B&B garden with 9 chicks. We were delighted and surprised. She had been well hidden. We have now put them with mum safely in one of the stables until they are a bit bigger.

Barney our Grandchildren's shetland has just learnt to pull a cart. He is doing really well and thoroughly enjoys it.

A pair of Pied Wagtails have made their nest in a fruit basket in the barn. They are doing really well and raising 5 chicks.

The goslings hatched 2 days ago and this is their first swimming lesson. Both the goose and gander have proven to be excellent parents.

This is Snowdrop. Angel gave birth to her at 2.30am on the 21st Feb. 2013 she is 19.5ins high and weighs 24llb. It was a very cold night and Snowdrop struggled to stand and feed at first so we had to help her. She is now 5 days old and full of life. Angel has been a great mum very patient with her as she struggled to feed during the first couple of days.

Eeyore is our 18 month old Miniature Med. Donkey. He is only 27 inches high. This is the first time that he has seen snow and he had a great time playing in it. We also have his mum, who is called Angel, and she is due to give birth around the 12th February.

Jacki our orphaned Muntjac fawn is growing up fast. She is 4 months old now and gets on really well with all the animals.

After a few problems during lambing we had 9 lambs, 6 Ewes and 3 Rams. One of the rams is nicely marked and is growing really well so we have kept him entire with the view to showing him and then selling him as a shearling ram next year. They love racing around and causing havoc in the field.

One of our Zwartbles, Tess, who was in lamb for the first time had twins last Sunday the 22nd, two weeks early. She had 1 ewe lamb and 1 ram lamb. They were both very small and weak. After an hour she rejected the ram lamb and we started bottle feeding him. Unfortunately he died 3 days later. The ewe lamb is still struggling on and we have to help her feed off her mother. Harriet had her lamb yesterday, on time, and had a really large ram lamb who is already jumping around the pen.

This is Jacki an orphaned 7 day old Muntjac Deer fawn that we have been bottle rearing since she was 2 days old. She loves exploring and is very inquisitive.

Our Zwartble sheep are due to start lambing around the 10th April with the first two being Matilda and Harriet. The last ones are due to lamb at the end of May so we have a couple of enjoyable months with young lambs around.

Our White Cochin hen hatched out 3 of her 6 eggs and this is the first time that she has brought them out of the chicken house.

These are our new residents at Bush Farm. Three Kune Kune piglets called Muffin (spotty), Lucy (black) and Penelope (ginger). They are 5 months old and really tame.

We are really pleased to have featured in two magazines recently. The BBC CountryFile Magazine (March 2011) chose us as the recommended place to stay whilst exploring the Clun Valley and Bury Ditches Hillfort. Then the 7th June 2011 issue of Womens Weekly in their article 'Britain's Best B&Bs' chose us as the best Country B&B in Shropshire.

Matilda our third Zwartble sheep had her lamb yesterday. Another ewe lamb, who is going to be called Tara, which makes all three lambs born so far ewes so our flock will be getting larger. The only one left now is Rosemary, the Texel cross, she is showing no signs at all and we suspect that she might not be in lamb but you never know as sheep are full of surprises.

Betty one of our other Zwartble sheep giving birth to her first lamb at 7.30am this morning. She is really attentive and looks like she is going to be a great mum. Tha lamb is a ewe and is going to be called Tess.

One of our Zwartble sheep called Harriet had her lamb on Sunday 8th May. All went well and she had a little ewe lamb called Tinkerbell.

We have just hatched out some pure breed chicken eggs. The chicks are a mixture of Buff Orpingtons, Cream Legbars, Black Cochins and Speckled Sussex.

Gizmo and Sweatpea are now 14 days old. They are getting more and more playful and love their new table and climbing blocks.



......... 28th April 2011 .........



Gizmo and Sweatpea are now 9 days old. Gizmo is the male and has a lot more white on him. He really struggled to drink when we picked him up and was quite weak. We tube fed him for the first day until he got the idea of sucking a teat on a bottle. Since then he hasn't looked back. They are both now very lively and are great fun to watch and play with.

We have just collected two 4 day old orphaned pygmy goat kids. They will need bottle feeding for the next couple of months. They are really tiny and extremely cute. They are a little boy and a little girl called Gizmo and Sweetpea.

If you have always wanted to paint but think you can't or want to improve your painting. Local artist Diane Jennings (based in Ludlow) holds classes most weekends. Christina goes regularly and thoroughly enjoys it and has produced some really good paintings even though she has had very little experience. Matilda, Betty, Harriet our 3 Zwartble sheep and Rosemary our crossbred are due to lamb on the 10th May 2011. Fingers crossed it all goes well.

On Friday 25th March 2011 we collected three 8 week old Saddleback piglets. Their names are Primrose, Penny and Daffodil.
